The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

ingredients
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon butter
2 cups pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
directions
Cook the sugar and milk over medium-high heat until the soft ball stage is reached. Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla and pecans. Beat slightly and spoon on to waxed paper.
