Chocolate Oatmeal Caramelita Bars

ingredients
1 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
3/4 cup lightly-packed brown sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Topping
3/4 cup caramel sundae sauce
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease bottom and sides of 9 inch square pan with shortening.
Combine oats, brown sugar, flour and baking soda in large bowl. Add melted shortening. Mix well. Reserve 1/2 cup of the mixture for the topping.
Press remaining crumbs firmly in prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts evenly over hot crust.
Topping: Combine caramel sauce and flour, stirring until smooth. Drizzle over chips and nuts. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes longer, or until golden brown. Run knife around edge of pan before cooling for easy cutting. Cool, cut into bars.
