Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

Everyone always loves this cake when I make it. The only change I make some of the time is to use chopped macadamia nuts on it instead of pecans.

This cake is delicious, and very special to my family. I originally made it for my husband's birthday, but my dad ended up loving it so for the past few years I've made it for him for his own birthday. My dad recently passed away unexpectedly, so it's nice to know that I'll be able to pass this recipe on to my daughter and tell her it was pap's favorite! It is a very good cake; very moist and pretty easy to make! I've only received compliments from everyone who has tasted it :) The only things that I do differently from the recipe are 1) I don't chop the cherries, I place them whole on top of the cake, & 2) I haven't added pecans in the past because my dad couldn't eat them. Thanks for a great recipe!
