1-2 hrs
ingredients
1 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
6 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup farina (e.g., Cream of Wheat cereal, not instant)
1 cup flour
3 teaspoons baking powder

Syrup
3 cups water
3 cups sugar
1 thinly sliced lemon, peel and all (remove seeds)
1 cinnamon stick
directions
Melt butter and mix in sugar. Beat eggs and add to sugar and butter mixture. Stir in vanilla.
Mix together farina, flour, and baking powder. Add to sugar mixture and stir well.
Pour into a greased 9" x 13" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for approximately 45 minutes, until golden brown.
While cake is baking, prepare syrup by combining ingredients and boiling for 10 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick.
Remove cake from oven and cut into diamond shapes. Make diamonds by making diagonal cuts first (about 1 inch apart), then straight-across cuts.
Pour syrup over cake while both are hot. Add syrup in stages; it will soak in! Cool before serving.
 Very, very sweet.

The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
