Alabama Jam Cake

ingredients
1 cup shortening, melted
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs, beaten
3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
2 cups blackberry jam
1 cup pecan pieces
1 cup raisins, cooked 5 minutes and drained
directions
Sift together all dried ingredients (sugar, flour, soda and spices) in a large bowl. Mix melted shortening, eggs, jam, pecans, raisins and buttermilk. Then beat about 4 minutes.
Blend in dry ingredients. Pour into 3 greased layer cake pans (9-inch). Bake about 25 minutes in 350 degrees F oven or until cake is done. Ice with your favorite icing for jam cake.
