This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

1 cup butter
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup sour cream
2 eggs
Frosting
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 cup butter
6 tablespoons milk
1 box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup walnuts, chopped
Bring to a boil the first four ingredients: butter, cocoa, water and sugar. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix the sugar, flour, salt, baking soda, sour cream and eggs. Add the hot mixture, stir together, pour into a greased cookie sheet with sides. Bake 15-20 minutes at 375 degrees F.
While the cake is baking, bring to a boil the cocoa, butter, and milk. Simmer, then add the powdered sugar, vanilla and walnuts. Mix well and pour over the hot cake. Cool and serve.

Not sure what makes this cake florida style but it's close to the texas style cakes I grew up with.

Love this cake. Easy to make. I add chopped walnuts to the cake batter in addition to the frosting.

A very good chocolate cake from scratch.
In the directions it says to boil the first 4 ingredients which includes the sugar. Then it says to add the sugar to the next step. That needs to be corrected. The sugar should go in the 2nd step.. do not boil it. Then, I poured the batter into my cookie sheet as directed.. it overflowed.

Can anyone tell me why my frosting turned back into liquid after two days? I followed the recipe but after two days, my frosting was like chocolate syrup!
The first paragraph of the cooking instructions needs to be corrected. The addition of sugar is stated twice. Which is correct-including the suger with the ingredients that are to be brought to a boil or adding it along with other dry ingredients?
