Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

1-2 hrs
ingredients
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/3 cup solid vegetable shortening
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk, heated to almost boiling
directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt into a 9x13-inch baking pan. Add water, oil, vinegar and vanilla. Mix with a large rubber spatula until smooth, taking care to mix ingredients along edges.
Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 40 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack.
FROSTING: Combine butter and shortening in a food processor or mixing bowl. Add sugar and vanilla. Mix until smooth, about 2 minutes. Slowly drizzle in milk. Beat 2 minutes in food processor or 7-10 minutes with a mixer, until smooth, satiny and fluffy. Chill just 20 minutes before frosting.

Nutritional data has not been calculated yet.Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.
It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).
