ingredients
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot coffee
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup solid shortening
1/2 cup molasses or dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2  eggs
1/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons water
directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 10-by-15-inch jelly-roll pan. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl combine first 13 ingredients. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed. Pour into greased pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched in center. Cool. In small saucepan over medium heat cook butter until light golden brown, stirring constantly. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Spread over bars.
