The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

4 slices bacon
1 medium onion, sliced
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup sour cream
1 envelope (1 ounce size) Ranch salad dressing mix
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
2 cloves garlic
1 large head iceberg lettuce, cut into serving wedges
shredded basil, optional
Cook bacon in large skillet until crisp. Remove bacon and drain on paper towels, reserving 1 t. drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon, and set aside.
Saute onion in hot drippings in skillet over medium heat 10 minutes or until tender and lightly browned. Remove from heat; cool.
Process buttermilk and next 4 ingredients in blender or food processor until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides. Stir in onion.
Top each lettuce wedge with dressing; sprinkle with bacon, and if desired, shredded basil.
