ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon margarine
1 small thinly sliced onion
1 cup sliced mushrooms
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup cubed green pepper
pepper, to taste
2 cans stewed tomatoes
1 teaspoon sugar
directions
Mix half the salt and pepper with the ground beef. Shape into patties. Melt margarine in saucepan and add patties. Brown patties on both sides and remove from pan. Do not drain fat.
Add onions, celery, green pepper and mushrooms. Put lid on pan and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Add tomatoes, slat, and pepper and sugar. Bring to a boil and add meat. Reduce to low and simmer for 15 minutes, pushing occasionally.
Serve over macaroni noodles.
Variation: Don't make patties, just break up ground beef as it browns. Add spices as desired, like basil and oregano.
