- #22308
The same delicious flavors as homemade lasagna without the pasta. This lower carb crock pot version uses cabbage in place of lasagna noodles to separate the layers of beefy filling.

ingredients
16 ounces tomato sauce
1 pound ground beef, browned and drained
1 medium onion, sauteed
1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon crushed oregano
1 dash black pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 small head cabbage sliced thin
1 1/2 cup cottage cheese
1 egg, beaten
shredded mozzarella cheese
directions
Combine tomato sauce, browned beef, onion, garlic powder, oregano, pepper, and red pepper flakes in saucepan. Simmer 15 minutes.
Ladle some of the meat sauce into bottom of crockpot. Combine the cottage cheese and egg.
Layer in the following order, repeat layers until all is used up (ending with mozzarella cheese): sliced cabbage - meat sauce - cottage cheese - mozzarella
Cover; cook on high for 4 to 6 hours.

Tastes just like lasagna! This is a very flexible recipe - feel free to put in your favorite spices and seasonings, or even used jarred pasta sauce in place of the tomato sauce. Italian sausage would work will in place of the ground beef too. Great for low-carb lifestyles - lasagna taste without the pasta! This recipe filled a 3 1/2 quart crockpot to the top and the cabbage was very tender after 4 hours on high. If using a newer crockpot you might want to reduce the cooking time or cook on low for half the time (newer crockpots cook hotter than older models like the one we tested this in).
