crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

recipe tips

For a thicker sauce, remove the lid of the crock pot during the last hour of cooking to allow some of the liquid to evaporate.

Add a splash of soy sauce or hoisin sauce for an extra layer of flavor.

If the sauce is too sweet, add a bit more vinegar to balance it out.

Leftover ribs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

To reheat leftovers, place the ribs and sauce in a pan over low heat on the stove, stirring occasionally until warmed through.

You can use fresh pineapple if you prefer. Just make sure to cut it into small pieces similar to the canned tidbits. You can use pineapple juice in place of the liquid in the canned pineapple.

Can I substitute white vinegar for cider vinegar?

How can I make this dish spicier?

You can add red pepper flakes, hot sauce, or diced jalapenos to the sauce to give it a spicy kick. Adjust the amount to taste.

Can I brown the ribs before putting them in the crock pot?

tools needed

Measuring Cups and Spoons: To accurately measure the ingredients such as the onion, green pepper, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.

Crock Pot or Slow Cooker: For slow-cooking the boneless country style ribs, allowing the flavors to meld together and the meat to become tender.

Knife: For thinly slicing the onion and green pepper, as well as any other prep work required such as mincing garlic.

Bowl: For mixing the pineapple juice with the other sauce ingredients before pouring over the ribs in the crock pot.

what goes with it?

Grilled Pineapple Slices: Keep the pineapple theme going by grilling up some pineapple slices to serve alongside your ribs. The smoky char from the grill will add a nice contrast to the sweet and tangy flavors of the ribs.

Pineapple Margaritas: Wash down your meal with a refreshing pineapple margarita. The tropical flavors will enhance the pineapple in the ribs and provide a fun and festive beverage choice.

Sticky Rice: Keep it simple with some sticky rice to soak up all the delicious sauce from the ribs. The neutral flavor of the rice will let the flavors of the ribs shine.

Macaroni and Cheese: the creamy, cheesy goodness of mac and cheese will provide a comforting and indulgent side dish to complement the tangy and sweet flavor of the sweet 'n sour ribs.

beverage pairings

Wine Pairings
Pinot Noir: A Pinot Noir would be a great match here. Its light, fruity profile will complement the tangy sweetness of the sauce and pineapple, while not overpowering the dish.

Riesling: If you prefer white wine, go for a Riesling. The slight sweetness of a Riesling can balance out the tanginess of the sauce, and its acidity will cut through the richness of the ribs.

Merlot: A Merlot with its smooth, medium body and dark fruit flavors can stand up to the sweet and tangy sauce, making for a cozy pairing that won't steal the show.

Other Alcohol Pairings
Beer: Opt for a crisp, refreshing lager to go with these ribs. The light malt profile will complement the flavors without overwhelming them.

Whiskey: A whiskey that's slightly on the sweeter side, like a bourbon, would pair nicely here. The caramel notes in the whiskey can play off the sweet and tangy sauce.

Cider: A dry apple cider would be a fantastic accompaniment to these ribs. The slight tartness of the cider can cut through the sweetness in the sauce, balancing out the flavors nicely.

Non-Alcoholic Pairings
Iced Tea: A classic glass of iced tea would be a simple and refreshing companion to these ribs. The coolness of the tea can contrast the warmth of the dish.

Sparkling Water: Keep it light and bubbly with a glass of sparkling water. The effervescence can help cleanse your palate between each bite.

Lemonade: A glass of chilled lemonade can bring a touch of brightness to each bite of the sweet and tangy ribs.
