Creamy Cabbage Stroganoff

ingredients
1/8 cup bacon drippings or vegetable oil
1 cup chopped green onions
1 pound ground sirloin
1 small head green cabbage, chopped coarsely
1 cup water, divided
1 package onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream
1 package (8 ounce size) noodles, cooked
directions
In a large heavy skillet, heat bacon drippings or oil; saute onions until limp. Add beef, crumbling with fork and cook until browned. Add cabbage and 3/4 cup water. Cover and simmer over medium heat until cabbage is wilted.
Sprinkle with onion soup mix and stir, mixing well. Add mushroom soup; rinse can with remaining 1/4 cup water, and add that water to the skillet. Stir in sour cream, cover and simmer over low heat for 45 minutes.
Add cooked noodles and combine or serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.
