over 5 hrs
ingredients
2 pounds stew meat
5 carrots, cut up bite size
5 medium potatoes, cut up in large chunks
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 small package frozen peas (optional)
1 bay leaf
1 can tomato soup
1 can water
1/4 cup sweet pickle juice
salt and pepper, to taste
1 dash hot sauce or Creole seasoning (or to taste)
1 dash Lawry's Seasoning
directions
Mix all ingredients except the peas into a cast iron Dutch oven and bake on 250 degrees F for about 4 or 5 hours. The last half hour of cooking, add the peas. Enjoy!
HINTS: The critical ingredient is the sweet pickle juice. Don't be tempted to leave it out as it give the stew a wonderful flavor.
A cast iron Dutch oven works best, but you can also use your slow cooker on low and leave it to cook while you are at work for 8 hours or so.
I find stew meat too fatty so I cut up a beef round, bottom round roast instead. If it seems too runny, mix up a tablespoon of corn starch with some water and stir in to thicken.

This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.
