  1. JenL REVIEW:

I had no trouble making this recipe it came out fine-it was even the nice devil's food cake color. I only gave it 3 stars because I prefer a more chocolatey flavor and I thought it was actually a bit too moist. As to the poor reviews I wonder if the lumpy cake was mixed in the pot instead of a mixer or they used powdered cocoa instead of the squares. As to the person who said it was flat I think they either added the soda at the wrong time or forgot it entirely. Mine turned out nice and rounded on the top.

  2. Valentina REVIEW:

Fantastic cake. I have made it several times (either as round cake or cupcakes) and it turns out lovely every time. Moist & yummy!

  3. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

For the people who didn't rate this cake a "5", something's gone wrong for you. It's the easiest, yummiest cake ever. It should be a cinch. In my version, I only use 1/4 cup butter and add 1/2 tsp baking powder as well. Try cooking on greaseproof-lined tins and cook for 165C (155C fan forced) for 15-25 mins. Shouldn't be dry AT ALL, and certainly rises well. Enjoy!

  4. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

I have to rate this recipe as a definite 5. One of the very best made from scratch chocolate cakes I've ever made. The cake was very moist and chocolatey - I followed the recipe exactly as written, including the frosting. Will make it again!

  5. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

I'm an experienced baker and this recipe did not turn out for me at all. There's not enough leavening in it, which produces a too-dense cake and the texture is almost like a grainy fudge. Not recommended!

  6. Rachel REVIEW:

This is the BEST chocolate cake recipe ever and we have tried many. I'm not sure what could have gone wrong for the other reviewer. We have made it many, many times and it is always fabulous. All other chocolate cakes taste like cardboard to me now.

  7. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

I made this cake for my sisters birthday and it turned out perfect. It was moist, it rose well and was very chocolatey. The frosting is also very good :)

  8. LLzBellz REVIEW:

Rich, dense, super cholatey ... yummmmm !!!!!!

  9. Gordy REVIEW:

We loved the recipe! We used to live up the street from the Blue Willow restaurant, and always enjoyed them as cupcakes. The recipe worked fine for us, rich and moist, rose nicely, and had LOTS of chocolate flavor.

  10. Mar REVIEW:

I was looking for a sour cream chocolate cake recipe and I thought since this was from a restaurant it would be good. I was not pleased with the texture or flavor of the cake. It was dry and it was not very tasty. My children who love my baking would not eat it. I had to toss the whole frosted cake in the garbage. I will be throwing out the recipe.
