ingredients
Filling
8 ounces room temp cream cheese
1/3 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 pinch salt
1 small bag chocolate chips
Cake Batter
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2/3 cup cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
2/3 cup oil
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream the cream cheese and sugar. Beat in egg and salt. Stir in chocolate chips. Set the filling aside.
Mix the cake batter. Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt Add water, oil, vinegar and vanilla Beat well and fill cupcake liners 3/4 full with chocolate batter. Drop about a scant teaspoon of cream cheese mixture on the top of each in the middle.
Bake in preheated 350 degrees F oven for approximately twenty minutes. You could halve the cake batter part if you wished and put a larger dollop of the cream cheese mixture on top of 18 cupcakes.

I made these a couple days ago and they were deliciously awesome. I altered the recipe a little bit by adding 3 tsp of vanilla and 2 Tbs of espresso. I also cooked at 300 degrees instea of 350

The filling part of these was delicious, and I will use it again. But the batter did not rise, had no flavor, and was light. More cocoa could be added, but next time I will use a tried-and-true chocolate cake recipe with this filling.

Wow-completely impressed! I ADORE the Starbucks cupcakes and was thrilled with this recipe's results. My only recommendation would be to triple the cream cheese filling mixture and to do as suggested in the recipe and use half chocolate batter and half cream cheese filling in each cupcake. Also, to be more "Starbucks-like", sprinkle some extra chocolate chips on the top halfway through baking time. I used milk chocolate chips and cider vinegar to be more specific. Enjoy! Thanks for the recipe!
