Slow Cooker Hearty Turkey Chili With Wild Rice

ingredients
1 pound ground turkey
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
2 cans (15 ounce size) tomato sauce
1 can (24 ounce size) V-8 vegetable juice
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup chopped mushrooms
1 small jalapeno pepper, chopped (optional)
1 can (15 ounce size) stewed tomatoes, drained
1/2 cup uncooked wild rice
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 can (15 ounce size) chili beans, undrained
1 envelope (1 ounce size) chili seasoning mix
directions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey, ground beef, onion, and celery. Cook, stirring, until the meat is browned. Drain off any excess grease. Add the meat mixture to the crock pot.
Stir the remaining ingredients into the crock pot. Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 6 hours or until the rice is cooked.
Stir before serving. Adjust seasoning as needed.

This recipe now qualifies as "award winning" after taking top prize in my office chili cook-off this week (there were 9 entries)! I added a little salt and pepper, along with about 10 drops of standard tabasco sauce. And used ground beef instead of ground chuck.
