Turkey, black beans, tomatoes, onions, and green chiles pack these bowls to the brim with spices to give it some kick.

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic, chopped
1 pound ground turkey
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon brown sugar
kosher salt & pepper to taste
1 1/2 cup water
1/4 cup green chilies (canned, undrained)
1 can black beans (16 ounce size)
1 can (15 ounce size) chopped whole tomatoes with juice
1 can (15 ounce size) tomato sauce
Heat oil in Dutch oven over medium high heat. Add onions and garlic. Saute 3 minutes. Add turkey and spices (not the sugar). Cook 6 minutes.
Stir to crumble the meat. Stir in water and rest of ingredients (tomato, beans).
Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered, 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Made this tonight for dinner and we enjoyed every bite! We don't like overpowering spicy foods. So I was a little leery of putting the whole can of chilies (with their juice!) in the mixture. But it was not too hot and very tasty!

Never tried the original but I enjoyed the recipe and also used it in combination with a chili dog, yum-o!

Not sure how close this is to Max's Deli's version, but it is quite good!
