If you're new to hummus, this is the perfect recipe for you. It's easy to make and tastes great. This basic recipe can be modified to suit individual tastes by adding different spices like curry powder or hot pepper flakes.

1 cup cooked or canned chickpeas
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup tahini
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 tablespoon ground coriander
1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
If using canned chickpeas, rinse and drain them well. Add the chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, coriander, cumin, soy sauce, and parsley in a food processor. Process until smooth. Place in a covered container and chill in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before serving.
Before serving, drizzle with olive oil if desired. Serve with toasted pita wedges, chips, or fresh vegetables for dipping. Also makes a good sandwich spread instead of butter or mayonnaise.

Very tasty! Like Valerie said, the lemon was a little strong and the recipe was a little thick. I added about a tablespoon of olive oil and that helped quite a bit.

i made this general recipe but using more garbanzos than specified and then all the other ingredients ass listed here. it came out amazingly but i think if i had used the specified amount of beans it might have been a bit too strong. really good though.

This is a pretty standard hummus recipe. We decreased the lemon juice as a matter of personal preference (we just don't care for the often overpowering lemon flavor of some hummus recipes). The other ingredients were perfectly balanced. This hummus was a little thicker (we did add liquid to replace the lemon juice amount) so if you prefer a thinner consistency, add some water or vegetable broth as needed. We liked the thickness of it and it would be great on sandwiches!

very tasty. almost exactly how my mother in law makes it (she's from Pakistan) although a little hot pepper should spice it up a bit. try to heat up the chick peas first to soften, it will help with the graininess
