Easy Mincemeat Squares

ingredients
1 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup flour
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup mincemeat
1/3 cup chopped nuts
directions
Combine oats, flour, margarine, sugar, lemon peel, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and baking soda in a large bowl and blend well.
Put 1/2 the mixture in a well-greased 8" square baking pan and pat down. Spread mincemeat evenly over dough. Crumble the rest of dough on top of mincemeat. Sprinkle the nuts on top and press dough down carefully.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes. Let cool. Cut into 2" pieces.

Very good & not too sweet. It needs to bake the full time to be well browned & crunchy. I feel it ishealthier than mincemeat pie with the oatmeal & a lot easier.
