History:
This recipe was handed down to me from my grandmother and has been a family favorite. You can also use the liquid combination of this recipe to make wilted leaf lettuce or spinach salad by adding crumbled bacon and onion pieces with just a touch of the bacon grease and heating it before pouring over lettuce or spinach, let it set just a few minutes and serve.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
