This easy enchilada sauce is the perfect base for your favorite Mexican dishes. Made with just a few simple ingredients, it's both delicious and versatile.
Add the tomato sauce to a saucepan over medium heat.
In a bowl, combine the garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cornstarch. Slowly whisk in some water until the cornstarch mixture is smooth. Add the remaining water and cornstarch mixture to the saucepan.
Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce comes to a boil and begins to thicken. Remove from the heat, let cool slightly, and use as desired.

Easy and very good. Plus cheaper than buying it at the store.

A note to the commenter on the chili powder taste. I use cumin spice as a complement to the chili power, which gives the sauce a nice chili flavor. With cumin as a complement, one can increase the chili powder in the recipe.
I use chicken broth with some tomato paste blended in for the liquid. Gives even more nice flavor to the sauce.

My family loves this sauce. I make no alterations to the recipe and it turns out great every time. The flavor is perfect and rivals any store-bought enchilada sauce.
I'd recommend trying a different brand of chili powder. The flavors vary greatly by brand.

I am not an expert on enchilada sauce, but this was very good in my opinion. Tasty, homemade and easy gets an A+ in my book!

VERY Important: We replaced flour for cornstarch - MUST mix with small amount of sauce before adding to pan! Flour just gets clumpy when wet

This recipe was quick, easy, and delicious. It was nice to be able to make a wonderful sauce with ingredients I had on hand. Plus it was much better than what I get out of a can.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Sauce had too much of a chile powder taste.
I'd recommend trying a different brand of chili powder. The flavors vary greatly by brand.
