Change up your grilling routine and throw these wonderfully seasoned shrimp on the grill this weekend!

2 pounds peeled & deveined shrimp
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1/2 cup olive or canola oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon mesquite liquid smoke
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon dried basil, crushed
freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
Combine the shrimp and remaining ingredients in a large zip-top plastic bag. Seal the bag and turn it over a few times to coat the shrimp in the marinade. Place the bag in the refrigerator for up to 1 hour.
When ready to cook the shrimp, remove the shrimp from the marinade (discard the marinade) and place on a preheated grill or grill pan over medium heat (if cooking on a grill you can place the shrimp on skewers for easier turning). Cook until the shrimp has just turned opaque (do not overcook) or about 4 minutes per side. You can also panfry or broil the shrimp if desired.

I really like this recipe as it is very similar to the shrimp skewers I get from Chuy's Mesquite Grill. I added some cumin and lime juice and altho I didn't have the liquid smoke, it was still yummy! I will definitely make this again with small/medium size shrimp... I recommend serving it with lime wedges, sliced avocado, some salsa and warm flour tortillas.
