The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

ingredients
1 pound sugar
1 pint vinegar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
4 quarts blackberries
directions
Boil all together except berries gently for 15 minutes. Add blackberries and scald (not boil) for 10 minutes more. The spices can be omitted if preferred.
