1-2 hrs
ingredients
2 pounds Texas-style bread
7 cups milk
1 cup beaten eggs
4 cups granulated sugar
1 can (no. 10 size) peach pie filling
2 teaspoons vanilla
JACK DANIELS SAUCE
2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup water
1 pound butter
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons vanilla
9 tablespoons Jack Daniel's whiskey
directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Set the fan speed to high. Brush the bottom of a large baking pan with butter (or butter flavored shortening).
Cut each slice of bread in half and then cut each half in thirds. Place the bread in a large mixing bowl. Pour the milk over the bread and let it soak for 10 minutes.
Beat eggs in another mixing bowl. Add sugar, peaches (including juice) and vanilla and mix well. Fold the peach and bread mixtures together.
Slowly pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for 45 minutes. Use a paring knife to check for doneness. The knife should insert easily and come out clean. If the pudding is not done, continue to cook and check in 5-minute intervals. Allow the bread pudding to cool to room temperature.
Ladle Jack Daniels Sauce (see recipe below) over the bread pudding and serve.
For Sauce: Pour the sugar and water into a 5-quart pot and mix well. Heat to a boil and then simmer until clear (sugar should be dissolved). Add butter, cinnamon and lemon juice. Stir until the butter melts. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla and the Jack Daniels; mix well.
