What's not to love about fried chicken covered in a sweet and tangy sauce and topped with toasted sesame seeds?
1/4 cup sesame seeds
SESAME SAUCE
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
yellow food coloring, as desired
CHICKEN
1 cup flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
4 cups thinly sliced chicken
oil, for deep frying
For Sesame Sauce: Combine water, vinegar, salt, sugar, soy sauce and yellow food coloring in a large pot. Cook over medium-high heat for about 20 minutes, until sugar has caramelized. Watch carefully to prevent mixture from boiling over. Set aside.
For Sesame Seeds: Brown sesame seeds in skillet over medium heat until lightly browned and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Stir frequently. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
For Chicken: Mix flour, cornstarch, salt and pepper in a bowl. Coat chicken with flour mixture and shake off excess.
Pour oil into a large pot to a depth of 3 inches. Heat oil to 350 degrees F. Deep fry chicken until crisp and brown, about 5 minutes. Be sure chicken is submerged in oil.
Remove chicken from oil and drain on paper towels. Place in a large mixing bowl. Pour sesame sauce over chicken and mix well. Add sesame seeds, combine well. Transfer to serving platter.

A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.
It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).

This was awesome - if tended properly the sauce was of perfect consistency. Everyone loved it and I will use the recipe for many years to come. Thanks a bunch!!!

This recipe is absolutely wonderful! Its so sweet and tasty. They are right though...add about 2tsp of cornstarch to the sauce to thicken it up a bit :) Yummy

This was a good sauce. The only thing I would do different is add cornstarch to thicken it because it was too liquidy, but a very good sauce for chicken.

This recipe was VERY good. My two sons are very picky about their sesame chicken and this one is now their favorite. The only thing that I found that you could actually alter is maybe cut down on the sauce as I had enough to actually save for another batch tomorrow!! With this recipe, you can take the basic chicken prep and use it as a springboard for all of your asian influenced dishes requiring fried chicken. Thanks, this is a KEEPER!!
