ingredients

1/2 cup heavy or whipping cream
1 cup milk chocolate pieces, chips or chopped chocolate bars

directions

Heat the cream in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring just to a boil then remove from the heat. Add the chocolate and stir well. Let stand for 1 minute then beat the mixture with a spoon until smooth and the chocolate has completely melted.

Let the mixture cool completely. When cool, beat the frosting with an electric mixer on high speed until it is thick and fluffy.

Spread on cooled cake or cupcakes.

Really fluffy and tasty! It was very moussy and worked great as a filling between cake layers.

When I started the icing I thought, "what a great idea and so easy!" It took at least 20 minutes to get the heavy cream/chocolate mixture to get to a whipped state. Then once it was there, it started to separate and I couldn't get it to stay together at all! What a shame because it tasted great!

    • Sounds like maybe the mixture hadn't cooled completely before you tried beating it with the mixer.

Why this has yet to be rated I have no clue! This is so simple, quick, if your in a hurry, and delish. I used 1c of Semisweet Chocolate Chips in place of the Milk Chocolate since that was what I had. With that ingredient, I don't know, it tasted like a really good ganache. Super easy and came together great. The taste is rich, not overly sweet, & velvet smooth in your mouth (I think it was the whipping that does that).
