1 package (4-serving size) chocolate or chocolate-fudge pudding mix (not instant)
1 1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla, divided
1 envelope whipped topping mix
1/2 cup very cold milk
Combine pudding and 1-1/3 cups milk in saucepan. Cook as directed on package. Remove from heat. Add butter and 1/2 tsp vanilla. Cover surface with waxed paper and refrigerate until completely chilled, about 2 hours.
Prepare topping mix with 1/2 cup milk and remaining vanilla as directed on package. Blend into chilled pudding.
Refrigerate cake until ready to serve. Store any remaining cake, covered, in refrigerator.
