ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon soda
2 tablespoons whiskey
3 cups all-purpose flour
whole cloves
powdered sugar
directions
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add egg yolk. Combine soda and whiskey; add to creamed mixture. Add flour, 1 cup at a time; mix and knead by hand, adding enough flour to make a soft dough.
Shape as desired into crescents or oblong balls. Insert a whole clove in center of each cookie.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes. Dust generously with powdered sugar while cookies are warm.

Make sure to only add enough flour to form the dough (we didn't use all three cups of flour). The cookies were good the first 24 hours, but after that they became terribly dry - so they don't seem to keep very long. Was a nice accompaniment to our Greek meal.
