The best stews are simmered all day. This recipe uses a good variety of typical beef stew ingredients to give it a well rounded flavor. Hint: add a little extra thyme and oregano during the last 30 minutes of cooking to freshen up the herb flavors after the long day of simmering.
1 pound beef stew meat
4 carrots, cut in chunks
1 onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, diced
3 medium potatoes, diced
1 can (15 ounce size) stewed tomatoes, undrained
1 dash dried thyme
1 dash dried oregano
1 pinch salt
1 1/2 cup beef broth
Combine all the stew ingredients in the crock pot, stirring to mix well.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 7-8 hours or until the beef and vegetables are tender.
Serve hot. Adjust the seasoning as needed before serving.

Love buffalo wings? Get that same hot, zippy flavor in everything from deviled eggs to enchiladas. And of course: wings.
This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

Try adding 1 or 2 cups of ZING ZANG bloody mix if more liquid is needed...adds body and great flavoring to your stew.

I feared this might get too salty with the soup mix and bouilon cube but it didn't. We enjoyed this stew very much.

I've been using this recipe for years. To thicken I add 1/4c Instant Tapioca Pudding. I also increase the liquid by adding beef broth or water w/ beef bouillon cubes. I also add some additional diced tomatoes. Add more spices to taste. 7 hours at 250 or 5 hours at 300. Enjoy!

Turned out great! I upped the ante a bit with the spices and sauce by adding three bouillon cubes and some extra beef broth for enhanced flavor, some other added spice blends for personal preference to. Had to thicken a little so used the cornstarch trick. I would definitely make this stew again for guests or as a great family meal!

Left out the potatoes, added 1 1/4c of beef broth for the water (so didn't use bouillon cube) 1/4c of merlot and a lot more then a dash of thyme and oregano and a bay leaf. Ended up adding a little more beef broth at the end because there wasn't enough for me. So yummy and the merlot really added some depth to it!
Something's wrong with this recipe! There isn't nearly enough liquid for it to cook in the crockpot. I needed to add quite a bit of water, and even then, it wasn't enough.
The crockpot creates steam (assuming the lid fits properly and it isn't one of the kinds that overcooks everything) which will make up the rest of the liquid. The liquid called for in the recipe looks like it should be enough based on that.
Needed something to thicken it up so will try the cornstarch. It was very bland so will punch up the spices also.

tried this for my 1st slow cooker meal and it was very good! my picky husband had seconds and my 6yr old enjoyed it too. It was looking more like beef soup, so at the end I took out 3-4 tbs of the broth and mixed it with 2 tbs cornstarch, then poured the mixture back into the slowcooker, mixed it up and let it cook a bit longer (the carrots weren't quite soft enough yet) - about 15-20 min. - thickened up the sauce just enough and gave it a heartier texture and taste. Will make again!

Had to trim it down for my 3 quart pot.

It needs more flour. It came out quite soupy until I added roughly 3/4 c more flour.
This recipe calls for a lot of liquid as far as crock pot stews go, I wouldn't add more flour but rather decrease the liquid since the crock pot will create steam that adds to the liquid already called for.

I really liked this beef stew... I didn't have beef bouillon cube but it didn't make any difference. I will be doing this one again.
