The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

Chicken is dipped in a batter of flour, salt, black or cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and beer, and fried until crispy and cooked through.

1 3/4 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black or cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 can (12 ounce size) beer
  vegetable oil, for frying
1 broiler-fryer chicken, cut up
Combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and beer in a bowl. Whisk until the batter is smooth then let stand for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Heat the oil to 375 degrees F (in a skillet or deep fryer). Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.
Dip the chicken into the batter and let any excess drip off. Place in the hot oil, a few pieces at a time - do not crowd the chicken - until cooked through and the coating is golden brown.
Place the browned chicken on a baking sheet in the oven to keep warm while you cook the remaining pieces.
 Serve hot or cold.

it worked so well. I'm 64 and had never tried to beer batter before. My family loved it!
What can you use instead of beer in this recipe?
You could use non-alcoholic beer if it's the alcohol you're opposed to. Otherwise, you'll lose some of the flavor boost from the beer but you could use some other carbonated liquid like club soda or seltzer.

This chicken dish was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. I don't cook often so I was very surprised at how easy this dish was for me to prepare. I'll definitely cook this again.

Not bad, reminds me of Long John Silver's chicken, but really needs more seasoning. I will make it again, but kick it up!
