Navy beans and ham go together like mac n' cheese, gin and tonic, or this recipe and your kitchen. Starting with a bone-in hock adds tremendous savory flavor to the broth.
1 1/2 pound navy beans, soaked overnight in cold water and then drained
2 1/2 quarts water
1 ham hock or meaty ham bone
1 cup chopped onion
salt and pepper, to taste
Combine the soaked beans with the water, ham hock, onion, and seasoning as desired.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 10 hours or until the beans are cooked.
Remove the ham hock from the crock pot and pick the meat from the bone. Discard the bone and chop the ham into bits. Return to the crock pot.
Adjust seasoning as needed before serving.

This was so easy but the end result is fantastic! I used coarse ground pepper and ground sea salt and I placed 3 ham hocks in the pot about 11/2 lbs. Both my wife and I loved it! This is defintely a keeper!!
