Piedmont-style North Carolina Ribs

ingredients
4 pounds pork back ribs
1 1/2 cup ketchup
1 cup vinegar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 pinch crushed hot red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon liquid smoke seasoning
directions
Cut ribs into serving-size pieces. Place ribs in shallow roasting pan and preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Mix remaining ingredients together in small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and use to baste ribs, as they roast, about every 15 minutes.
Roast ribs for a total of 2 hours, or until tender and nicely browned.
Heat remaining sauce and serve with ribs.
