Choose fresh seafood for the best flavor in this dish.
For a richer flavor, add a splash of cream or a pat of butter at the end of cooking.
Make sure to discard any mussels that do not open after cooking, as they may not be safe to eat.
Try different pasta shapes like fettuccine or penne for variety.
Add a squeeze of lemon juice before serving to brighten up the flavors.
For a spicy kick, add crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the sauce mixture.
Consider adding a handful of cherry tomatoes or olives for extra flavor.
Adjust the cooking time based on the size of your seafood to prevent overcooking.
To make it a creamier dish, stir in a spoonful of cream cheese or mascarpone cheese before serving.
common recipe questions
What type of spaghetti sauce should I use for this recipe?
You can use your favorite spaghetti sauce, whether it's marinara, tomato basil, or any other variation you prefer. You probably want one without meat in it, however, unless you want more of a surf-and-turf flavor to the meal.
Can I use a different type of wine instead of Marsala?
You can substitute Marsala wine with white wine, dry vermouth, or seafood stock for a different flavor.
What can I use instead of mushrooms in this recipe?
If you're not a fan of mushrooms, you can omit them altogether or substitute with other vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or cherry tomatoes. You'll want to cook the veggies before adding them to the crock pot since this recipe has a short cooking time.
How should I prepare the mussels before adding them to the crock pot?
Make sure to scrub the mussels under cold water to remove any debris and pull off the beards (stringy bits) sticking out of the shells before adding them to the dish.
What is the best way to cook the linguine pasta for this recipe?
Cook the linguine according to the package instructions until al dente, then drain and toss lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.
Can I add other seafood to this dish?
You can add your favorite seafood options like clams, crab meat, or lobster tails to create a seafood medley.
How do I know when the shrimp, scallops, and mussels are fully cooked?
The shrimp should turn opaque and curl, the scallops should be firm and white, and the mussels should open up when they are done cooking.
How should I serve the seafood linguine?
Serve the seafood linguine over the cooked linguine pasta in a deep bowl, garnished with freshly chopped parsley or grated Parmesan cheese.
Can I refrigerate and reheat leftovers of this dish?
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a pan on the stove or in the microwave, adding a splash of water if the sauce seems dry.
Would this seafood linguine dish freeze well?
Seafood dishes with pasta don't freeze well due to the texture changes, especially with seafood like shrimp and mussels. It's best enjoyed fresh.
