recipe tips

For a thicker bisque, you can use heavy cream in place of the half-and-half.

Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper before serving if needed. The soups contain sodium so you may not need to add any.

Garnish with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning, or a drizzle of olive oil for an extra touch of flavor.

tools needed

Crock Pot or Slow Cooker: For cooking the tomato crab bisque over a longer period of time, allowing the flavors to develop and meld together.

Can Opener: For opening the cans of condensed tomato soup and cream of asparagus soup if needed.

Measuring Cup: To accurately measure and pour the half and half cream into the crock pot.

Stirring Spoon: To mix together the crab meat, tomato soup, cream of asparagus soup, and half and half in the crock pot.

Serving Bowls: For serving the hot and creamy tomato crab bisque once it is finished cooking.

what goes with it?

Garlic Toast: the crunchiness of the toast will provide a nice textural contrast to the creamy bisque, plus the garlicky flavor will add a punch of savory goodness.

Lemon Zest: a sprinkle of lemon zest on top of the bisque will add a bright and refreshing citrusy note to balance out the richness of the crab and cream.

Homemade Croutons: toss some homemade croutons on top of the bisque for added crunch and flavor.

Crispy Pancetta: crumble some crispy pancetta on top of the bisque for a salty, meaty kick that will take this dish to the next level.

Chive Garnish: a handful of chopped chives sprinkled on top of the bisque will add a pop of color and a hint of oniony freshness that will brighten up the whole dish.

beverage pairings

Wine Pairings
Chardonnay: The rich, creamy texture of a Chardonnay will match the decadent flavors of the tomato crab bisque. Look for one that has undergone malolactic fermentation for that buttery goodness.

Pinot Grigio: A light, crisp Pinot Grigio can provide a refreshing contrast to the creamy bisque. Its citrus notes can cut through the richness of the soup, making for a delightful pairing.

Merlot: If you prefer reds, a fruit-forward Merlot can stand up to the flavors in the bisque. Look for one with plum and cherry notes to complement the tomato base while not overpowering the delicate crab flavor.

Other Alcohol Pairings
Bloody Mary: A classic Bloody Mary can be a fun pairing with the tomato crab bisque. The savory flavors of the cocktail can enhance the soup's taste while adding a kick of spice.

Gin and Tonic: The crispness of a Gin and Tonic can cleanse your palate between bites of the rich bisque. The citrus notes in the drink can also complement the tomato flavor in the soup.

Amber Ale: An Amber Ale with its malt-forward profile can be a nice match for the savory bisque. The caramel notes in the beer can add a touch of sweetness to each spoonful of soup.

Non-Alcoholic Pairings
Lemonade: A glass of cold, tangy lemonade can provide a refreshing contrast to the rich tomato crab bisque. The acidity in the drink can cut through the creaminess of the soup, balancing out the flavors.

Ginger Beer: The spiciness of ginger beer can add a zing to each spoonful of bisque. The effervescence of the drink can also help cleanse your palate between spoonfuls.

Iced Chai Latte: The warm spices in an Iced Chai Latte can complement the flavors in the tomato crab bisque. The creaminess of the drink can also counterbalance the richness of the soup.

  1. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

This was super easy and is delicious! I substituted pastuerized crabmeat in a can (refrigerated, not frozen) and truly, it tastes like it came from a restaurant. Was skeptical because the ingredients are so basic, but just throw them together in the crock pot, add the half and half in the last hour, and you have a delicious soup in a few hours! The smell is divine!
