ingredients
1 1/2 pound round steak, cut into 1/2" cubes
3/4 pound pork loin, cut into 1/2" cubes
2 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans (16 ounce size) tomatoes, coarsely chopped
1 can (16 ounce size) tomato sauce
1 can (26 ounce size) dark red kidney beans, undrained
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
3 teaspoons chili powder
3 chopped jalapeno peppers
1/2 teaspoon dry oregano, crushed
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups shredded Jarlsberg cheese
additional oil, for frying tortillas (optional)
8 corn tortillas (6-inch size, optional)
directions
In large deep saucepan or Dutch oven, brown beef and pork in oil. Add onion and garlic and cook until onion is golden, stirring often.
Add next 10 ingredients and simmer 30 minutes, until beef is tender. Gradually blend in half the Jarlsberg. Heat, stirring often.
Meanwhile, heat 1" oil in deep skillet. Add tortillas one at a time and fry until golden on both sides, about 1 minute.
Press each into small serving bowl, keeping one end 2" about top of bowl. Serve chili on tortillas and garnish with remaining cheese.
