This chili has a hint of Tex-Mex to it. Ground beef is slow cooked in a spicy sauce made with tomatoes with green chiles and hot salsa. Serve with a dollop of sour cream to balance out the spicy flavor.
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
1 tablespoon chili powder, mild or spicy
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon paprika, smoked if you have it
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cans (10.5 ounce size) diced tomatoes and green chiles
1 jar hot salsa
Brown the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium high heat until beef is cooked and onion is soft. Drain off the fat.
Stir the crushed red pepper, cayenne, black pepper, chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, and garlic into the beef mixture and stir well to combine. Let cook for 2-3 minutes.
Stir the diced tomatoes and salsa. Mix completely.
Add chili to the crock pot. Cover, cook on low for 3-4 hours.
Serve with shredded cheddar cheese and fritos corn chips if desired.

My stars this chili is da bomb! It makes a lot so be prepared to be eating it for a couple of days or serve to lots of friends. The only thing I didn't add was the oregano because lo and behold I was out when I went to grab it from the spice rack.

Finally, a "spicy" chili that's actually spicy! We absolutely loved this. It had a lot of heat and flavor. You can definitely tone down the spices if you prefer. The cook time in the crockpot was perfect but it can definitely cook longer without compromising the final result. Best of all, it's easy!

We LOVE this recipe. I have had to tweak the heat level a little bit because it is way too hot for our tastes as written. It is a great base recipe for a quick and easy chili, just change the spice proportions to your own preference. I usually buy a package of mild chili seasoning and one hot, instead of measuring all of the spices. I use mild salsa and one can of regular tomatoes with one can of tomatoes with chiles. We love it on a football watching day with onions, cheese and sour cream for garnish. Thanks for the recipe.
