I was looking for an apple bread recipe to make in my bread machine. I'm pretty new to using a bread machine and find a lot of recipes calling for dry milk, of which I don't have on hand. So, when I found this one that didn't call for dry milk - I had to try it. It took 3 1/2 hours in my bread machine. I substituted walnuts for pecans and peeled my apples. It turned out nice. I tend to like heartier heavier breads (artisan like instead of softer white-bread like breads), but I must say that it turned out nice. Next time I will try to put in more apples because I tasted the nuts more with an essence of apple... I wanted more apple. Not sure where the caramel in the name of the recipe is coming from because I didn't taste or see anything caramel-ish. But, that said, it was still a nice tasting bread. Thanks!

I have used this recipe for 5 years in my classroom. The kids bring in the ingredients and we make it, while learning following directions and measuring! THen we donated the loaves to be sold during our local Johnny AppleSeed Festival!!
