It's like guac without all the chopping! Just three ingredients combine for a creamy dip perfect for tortilla chips or topping burritos. The hot salsa works with the cool avocado and sour cream to create a spicy kick without being too hot. Use different salsas for a new sauce every time!

recipe tips

Choose a perfectly ripe avocado for the best flavor and texture.

Try different types of salsa for variety, such as mango salsa or corn salsa.

Add fresh lime juice for a zesty flavor that also helps prevent browning.

If you want the sauce creamier, mix in a splash of heavy cream or cream cheese.

Add fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley for added flavor.

When storing leftovers, layer the avocado sauce with a thin layer of lime or lemon juice before sealing to prevent browning.

Try adding spices like cumin or smoked paprika to enhance the flavors further.

common recipe questions

Do I use green salsa or red salsa?

Either kind of salsa can be used, depending on what kind of flavor you want.

Is there a substitute for sour cream?

Plain Greek yogurt can be used as a healthier substitute for sour cream.

How can I make the sauce spicier?

You can add more or hotter salsa for additional heat or add fresh jalapenos, hot sauce, or crushed red pepper flakes to up the spice levels.

Can I use frozen avocado?

While it's best to use fresh avocados for texture and flavor, thawed frozen avocado can be used in a pinch. Just make sure to drain any excess liquid before mixing.

How long can I store the avocado sauce?

Avocado sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 days. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the sauce before sealing it in an airtight container.

Freezing avocado sauce is not recommended as it may change the texture and cause separation once thawed. It's best consumed fresh.

How do I know when the avocado is overripe?

An overripe avocado will feel mushy and may have dark spots or a sour smell. If it is brown inside or has an off taste, it should not be used.

Can I blend the ingredients instead of mixing by hand?

You can use a blender or food processor for a smoother consistency. Just be careful not to over-blend, as this can make the sauce too thin.

Great topping for tacos and burritos. It can also be used as a sauce on top of chicken or fish. You can even use it as a sandwich spread. And it's keto friendly!

  2. bluerecipes REVIEW:

This avocado sauce makes a delicious topping for nachos!

  3. susan113 REVIEW:

Avocado sauce is a quick and easy way to dress up any taco, burrito, or salad. To give the sauce more flavor, season it with garlic salt or seasoned salt. One of the best parts about this dish is you can make it as chunky as you want by adjusting the consistency with either salsa or sour cream. This dish goes well with most Mexican dishes but it also goes well on salads.
