This recipe is the perfect way to save money and have control over the ingredients in your baking mix. You can easily make a double or triple batch to have on hand for when you need it.
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 1/8 cup flour
2 1/2 tablespoons canola oil
Combine the baking powder, sugar, and flour. Sift the mixture twice and place in a large mixing bowl.
Slowly stir the oil into the flour mixture. Cut the mixture with a pastry blender until it resembles fine crumbs.
Store the baking mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 6 months.
Use anywhere baking mix is called for such as pancakes, waffles, biscuits, etc.
Add grated cheese or herbs to the baking mix before using in a recipe for savory options like cheese biscuits or herb scones.
Try different flours like almond flour or coconut flour for a unique flavor and texture in your baked goods.
Store the baking mix in the refrigerator for longer shelf life, especially in warmer climates.
Use this baking mix as a base for cobblers, dumplings, or as a coating for frying chicken or vegetables.
Try adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder for chocolate waffles or pancakes.
Baking powder is a leavening agent that helps the baked goods rise and become light and fluffy.
Sifting the dry ingredients twice helps to incorporate air into the mixture, resulting in a lighter and more evenly mixed baking mix.
You can use any neutral-flavored oil like vegetable or sunflower oil as a substitute for canola oil.
You can use whole wheat flour or a mixture of whole wheat and all-purpose flour for a healthier alternative.
You can customize the baking mix by adding spices like cinnamon or vanilla extract for a sweet flavor or cayenne pepper or cumin for more savory flavors.
You can use gluten-free flour in place of regular flour to make this baking mix gluten-free.
When stored in an airtight container at room temperature, this baking mix can last for up to 6 months. It will also depend on how fresh your ingredients are. Always check the date on your baking powder before using it.
You can freeze this baking mix in a sealed freezer-safe container for up to 1 year.
For best results, spoon the flour into a measuring cup and level off the top with a knife for an accurate measurement.
You can use this baking mix in recipes such as pancakes, waffles, biscuits, muffins, and more - anywhere Bisquick or another baking mix is called for.
The original Bisquick is made with shortening. Some people avoid shortening because it is high in transfats.

Do you add water or milk to make pancakes?
The "traditional" bisquick pancakes call for 1 cup milk and 2 eggs.

Very, quick and easy recipe for home made bisquick. It is no problem to double the size of the recipe. It stores well in a sealed container and makes a great crust for slow cooked apple pie. Thank you.
Is there no Bisquick in this Bisquick recipe? Am I missing something, or was it left out?
It's a recipe to make bisquick (or very close to it) - so no, it doesn't actually contain bisquick.
