Raisin Spice Cake

ingredients
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1  egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
directions
Beat shortening, sugar and egg until fluffy. Add spices, salt, and raisins and mix well. Mix in half of flour. 
 Add baking soda to buttermilk and combine remaining flour with baking powder. Add buttermilk and flour mixture alternately until well combined. 
 Pour into two greased 8 x 8 inch square pans or two 8 inch round pans. Bake in a preheated 375 degrees F oven for 25 minutes.
