Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

This is a great recipe. It is tasty and reliable. We use it frequently! I think the ingredient list could be re-organized to assist the baker: 1. For example, I find I need to cream the 1/2 c butter with 1/2c br. sugar well before adding the remaining 3/2 c br. sugar. 2. I would list all the dry ingredients, soda, cinnamon, allspice and clove together with the flour one should mix them with. 3. I almost never use salt in recipes like this -- the butter is salted already. Only if I used sweet butter would I add salt. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
