ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups raisins
2 1/2 cups water
1 cup lard (or other shortening)
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda, dissolved in a little hot water
1/2 cup nuts (or more), if desired
directions
Boil sugars, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt, raisins, water, and lard for 6 minutes. Let cool.
Add flour, soda, and nuts. Pour into a 9" x 13" pan. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees F.
