The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
Coconut-Rum Balls

ingredients
4 cups vanilla wafer crumbs
1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1 can (14 ounce size) sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup rum
powdered sugar
directions
Combine crumbs, coconut and nuts in a bowl. Stir in condensed milk and rum and mix well. Shape into 1-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar. Cover tightly and store in refrigerator at least 24 hours, or up to several weeks. Roll in powdered sugar again just before serving.
Note: you can substitute 1/2 cup water plus 1 tsp. rum extract for the rum if desired.

Made these with fat free sweetened condensed milk and they worked great! Very good. Made them last night and just sampled one (not yet 24 hours) and I think they are going to be a huge hit.
