Beer makes batters better, meat more tender, and sauces more flavorful.

Not all party food needs to be fancy. Marinated flank steak is broiled (or grilled) and served with garlic bread for a hearty (and easy) appetizer.

1 pound flank steak
meat tenderizer
barbecue sauce
1/2 cup red wine
garlic bread, prepared as directed on package
Sprinkle both sides of the flank steak with meat tenderizer. Tenderize with the textured side of a meat mallet or poke all over with a fork.
Spread barbecue sauce on both sides of the flank steak and place the steak in a zip-top plastic bag. Add the red wine, seal the bag, and marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
Preheat the oven broiler or a grill to medium-high heat.
Place the meat on a broiling pan and broil 2-inches from the heating element for 5-7 minutes per side. Or grill for 5-7 minutes per side.
Remove the meat from the oven or grill and let cool. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until well chilled.
Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain and arrange the slices on a platter surrounded by slices of garlic bread.
