This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

Meatballs made with ground beef, panko bread crumbs, and various seasonings are filled with a small cube of mozzarella cheese and baked in the oven. They are then transferred to a crockpot to simmer in a tasty tomato sauce until ready to serve. Shown here served as an appetizer but could easily be served as an entree as well.
1 1/2 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 egg
1 cup panko bread crumbs
1 1/2 teaspoon freshly chopped garlic
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper, to taste
Italian seasoning (marjoram, thyme, rosemary, savory, sage, oregano, and basil)
8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
Sauce
2 cans (15 ounce size) tomato sauce (more if desired)
1 can (15 ounce size) crushed tomatoes
Italian seasoning, to taste
1 chopped medium onion
1 1/2 teaspoon fresh chopped garlic
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a flat baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl add ground beef, onion powder, egg, panko crumbs, garlic, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, couple dashes of Italian seasoning. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 1-inch balls. Push in to the mixture a cube of cheese. Reshape the meatball. Place on lined baking sheet. Do this until all of the meatballs have been formed. Bake in the oven until browned, about 15 to 20 minutes. If the cheese cube that was used is too big it will melt out of the meatball.
In a crock pot, on medium heat add the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasonings (to taste) onion, and garlic. Keep hot while the meatballs cook. Add the meatballs once they are done cooking. Serve with toothpicks. The sauce can be heated on stove top.

The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
What's the secret ingredient in these cakes? Pudding mix. It not only adds flavor but it gives the cake a richer, creamier texture. No one will know your secret ingredient!

My kids love these because they do taste like pizza.

Great texture and flavor in the meatballs! I used mozzarella string cheese for the cheese cubes (they were the perfect size). They did end up melting a bit more inside than the photo shows after they sat in the sauce for a while but the cheese didn't ooze out. The flavor of the sauce is quite good too. I liked the texture of the combination of crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Gave it some density without being too chunky.

These were a HUGE hit this weekend! Quadrupled the recipe and used two crock pots. There wasn't a single meatball left. Glad I nibbled on a few before guests got here because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten any! Made exactly as directed.
