cook's notes
You can use any flavor of cake mix you wish, but the St. Louis style is to use the yellow. I have used chocolate, butter and lemon, all good
Gooey Butter Cake and Cookies have become very popular since Paula Dean showed up on TV however, Gooey Butter has been around in St. Louis for decades now. The cookies area nice bite size version of the cake, easy to make and disappear quick. I'd hoard them to myself it I were you!!

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.
