Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

ingredients
2 1/2 pounds pork spareribs
1 1/2 cup hot water
1 pound potatoes, pared and halved
1 1/2 cup canned or cooked green beans with liquid
salt
black pepper
directions
Brown spareribs in frying pan without added fat. Add water and simmer for 1 hour.
Add potatoes to meat and cook until tender - about 25 minutes.
Add beans and liquid the last 10 minutes of cooking. If raw beans are used, add with the potatoes.
Season with salt and pepper. Skim off excess fat before serving.
cook's notes
To complete the meal: Serve with crisp lettuce, tomato and celery salad, and apple betty with lemon sauce for dessert.
For variety: Beef short ribs may be used with longer cooking.
Corned beef, ham hock, or ham bone may be used in place of shortribs. Cover with water and simmer about 3 hours or until tender. Omit salt, and continue as above. Good with sauerkraut.

Pizza night is always a favorite, especially when you have great tasting pizza from some of the most popular restaurants.
This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

Folks, do not let the title make you think anything bad about this dish. Most everyone is acustomed to the BBQ when it comes to ribs. Try this different swing on the rib set. The potatoes will take on a flavor from the meat that will suprise you. Green beans get a little help as well. You will not be dissappointed. No left overs in the fridge at our house.
