ingredients

1 pound lean ground pork
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
dash black pepper
1 pastry for 2-crust 9 inch pie
2 medium cooking apples, peeled, cored & sliced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

directions

In skillet, cook pork and onion until pork is browned and onion is tender. Remove from heat. Stir in bread crumbs, chicken broth, salt and pepper.

Line a 9-inch pie plate with half the pastry; fill with meat mixture.

Combine apples, brown sugar and cinnamon; spoon atop meat layer. Adjust top crust; seal and flute edges. Cut slits in top crust for steam to escape.

Bake in 400 degrees F oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

  1. Denise REVIEW:

I have been making traditional "meat pie" for years. This pie was introduced to me a few years ago. A friend made it but would not share the recipe until recently. I love this pie…what goes together better than pork and apple? I used cortland apples but imagine any would work. This is a new holiday tradition and will be making this for years to come.
