ingredients
1 large chopped onion
1 can (#3 size) tomatoes
1 pound ground beef
1 can (#3 size) kidney beans
1 tablespoon shortening
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon each salt and pepper
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons chili powder
Corn Bread Mixture
1 cup self-rising cornmeal
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon salt
directions
Brown onion and beef in shortening. Drain off any fat.
Add salt, pepper, and chili powder. Add tomatoes, kidney beans and Worcestershire sauce.
Mix and pour into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Place cheese over top of this. Top with corn bread mixture.
For Corn Bread Mixture: Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
Pour over meat mixture and bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees F.
